772 Q Please state your name, rank, serial number and organization.

A Lawrence R. Steward, Jr. 1st Lieutenant, 0-1060658, Company "L", 157th Infantry, 45th Division.

(The witness was advised of his rights under the 24th Article of War.)

773 Q Were you in command of "L" Company while it was on guard duty at the Dachau Concentration Camp?

A I was.

774 Q Was any report made to you of the incident in which Pvt. De Marzo's rifle was involved in the shooting of two men in the Dachau Camp?

A A very abbreviated and hurried explanation was given to me.

775 Q Did you make any investigation?

A At the time I did not make any investigation.

776 Q Did you subsequently make any investigation?

A On the arrival in Munich an officer from I believe it was AMG came to our Orderly Room and made his own investigation.

777 Q Did you get any report of this incident from the sergeant of the guard or from the officer of the guard?

A No, sir.

778 Q As company commander you have made no investigation within the company?

A No official investigation.

779 Q Has any disciplinary action been taken with reference to De Marzo?

A None whatsoever.
