254 Q Please state your name, rank, serial number and organization.

A Daniel F. Drain, 2nd Lieutenant, 0-2006047, "M" Company, 157th Infantry.

(The witness was advised of his rights under the 24th Article of War.)

255 Q On the day that the Dachau Concentration Camp was taken by American troops to what unit were you assigned or what unit were you supporting?

A We were attached, one squad with which I was, was attached to the first platoon of "I" Company.

256 Q Were you present in the camp when certain of the prisoners of war were separated from the other prisoners of war?

A Yes, sir.

257 Q What was the basis of that separation?

A On the basis that they were SS men.

258 Q How many SS men were separated from the other prisoners?

A I would say roughly about 100.

259 Q Under whose orders or direction was this separation made?

A Lt. Walsh.

260 Q What other officers were present?

A That I could not say because I had left to follow another platoon and it was during my absence that they were separated.

261 Q What orders or directions did Lt. Walsh give for this separation?
