Vengeance at Dachau

Continued from page 37

Testimony of: Lt. Daniel F. Drain (Contd)

277 A Private Curtin and Private Sedler.

278 Q Any more?

A No, sir, that was all.

279 Q Do you know any of the other enlisted men who were there?

A The only one I recall was the medic of "I" Company, and I don't know his name. He didn't, however, do any firing.

280 Q He was present in the yard?

A That is right, sir.

281 Q After Col. Sparks stopped this what happened then?

A He said, Col. Sparks, that if any more orders would be given he would be the one to give them. Then he directed Lt. Walsh to carry on in attacking the concentration camp at Dachau. At this point I left Lt. Walsh and followed one of the platoons in the attack.

282 Q Do you know whether or not the battalion surgeon was called?

A No, sir, I could not tell you.

283 Q Did you see any of the inmates of the concentration camp abusing SS men or other prisoners?

A Yes, sir.

284 Q Where did you see that?

A Well, it was in a few different spots, sir. One spot was about 75 yards from what I believe to be the hospital at the concentration camp.

285 Q What did you see there?

A I believe it was a Pole. This was the one that picked out the SS'rs, and he beat many of the soldiers with his firsts, kicked them, knocked them around until they were bruised up pretty badly.

286 Q Was the incident you are now describing before or after the shooting of the prisoners in the yard?
