Job Opportunity
WordPress Website Developer
We’re Web 1776, a developer of custom WordPress websites. Our role is typically as a subcontractor for other web developers and advertising agencies. In this role we have built over 800 WordPress websites.
We have an office in Hudson, MA, and we value what might be termed a “quality of life” work environment. We keep normal business hours and have weekends free.
The two principals are UMass graduates (Amherst & Lowell), and we’re looking for someone who has a base skillset and can learn and problem solve.
You should have a strong knowledge of HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript / jQuery, and PHP5.
For WordPress specific skills:
- Theme building “from scratch” following WordPress Coding Standards
- Custom post types and taxonomies
- Theme Options pages and custom meta boxes (we prefer Advanced Custom Fields)
- Custom widgets
In addition, you should understand responsive implementation, cross-browser testing and bug squashing (we officially support IE8 and up), and have a familiarity with popular web hosts and tools (cPanel, phpMyAdmin, etc.) to install, move and repair sites.
Compensation is open to discussion.

Class Notes
Please fill out the Presentation Assessment form correctly and completely
- more than one student did not indicate which project they were reviewing
- be sure to put an X in one of the circles next to the 11 projects listed at the top of the form
- some students didn’t indicate a choice for each of the 5 criteria
- very few students wrote comments on their assessments
- people value your comments, regardless of whether they are positive or negative
- negative comments are fine, as long as they are constructive
- to make a negative comment constructive, simply suggest an improvement
- a gentle
way to frame a suggestions is to use “might” or “perhaps”
- “you might try ...”
- “it might be better if ...”
- “perhaps ...”
Be sure to monitor your email for any messages from me next week
- I will email you if I have trouble accessing your site or your GitHub repository
