Scholarships Available
College of Sciences
Several scholarships are available to undergraduate students who are enrolled full-time and pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in any of the six science programs in the College of Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Environmental Science, Mathematics, and Physics).
Please consider applying if you meet the eligibility requirements listed below. The scholarship award will be applied to the 2016-2017 tuition and fees.
Completed applications must be received by the Dean’s Office, College of Sciences (Olney Science Center, Room 524) no later than Friday, April 29, 2016 for consideration. The application form is here.
Basic requirement:
- Must be enrolled full-time during the 2016-2017 Academic Year in the College of Sciences
Specific requirements of individual scholarships:
LaTorre Family Scholarship
- For students with an earned academic record of 3.0 GPA or higher
Kennedy Family Merit Scholarship
- For students with an earned academic record of 3.2 GPA or higher
- For students with demonstrated financial need through established federal financial aid formulas
- Restricted to students who are U.S. citizens
O’Connor Family Scholarship
- For students with an earned academic record of 3.25 GPA or higher
- For students with demonstrated financial need through established federal financial aid formulas
Eric J. Helliwell Scholarship
- For students with an earned academic record of 3.0 GPA or higher
Dean Robert H. Tamarin Scholarship
- For students maintaining a GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Restricted to students who are U.S. citizens
Dept. of Computer Science
P.M. Raj Fund for Excellence in Computer Science
- Scholarship recipients must be declared graduate majors in the Computer Science degree program.
- Must be pursuing an M.S. degree in Computer Science.
- Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5.
- Preference will be given to Indian students, then US students; otherwise, any student may be eligible.
- If candidates are equally qualified, preference should be given to the candidate most in need of financial assistance.
- P.M. Raj Scholars are those students who exemplify the highest caliber of academic ability, drive, and work ethic.
- The Scholarship awards would reward our Computer Science graduate majors who take academic risks, push the limits of their ability, achieve high levels of success, and in so doing elevate the entire Computer Science program.
- This fund is technically a discretionary endowment but often (almost always) given as scholarships.
Bryon Drigian Memorial Scholarship Fund
- To support scholarships in the computer science program at UMass Lowell.
Martin J. Schedlbauer Computer Science Endowment
- The purpose of this fund is to support the Computer Science Department at UMass Lowell.
- This fund is technically a discretionary endowment but often (almost
always) given as scholarships.
Shulman Fund for Excellence in Computer Science
- To support the Computer Science Department at UMass Lowell.
Ziagos Family Endowment Fund
- The purpose of the fund is to support the mission of the Computer Science Department or the WUML radio station at UMass Lowell.
Computer Science 25th Anniversary Fund Scholarships
- Awarded once each academic year to students pursuing a degree in Computer Science who are at the Sophomore, Junior, or Senior level in their degree program.
- 3.0 grade point average or higher.
- In good academic standing
- Demonstrated financial need through established federal financial aid formulas.
William and Elizabeth O’Shea Scholarship
- Awarded to undergraduate students pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science.
- Students must be enrolled full-time for a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester.
- The annual award amount for each recipient will be up to $5,000 in constant dollars and can only be used to offset tuition and fees.
- Awards may be continued on a semester basis until graduation, conditional upon satisfactory performance and continued financial aid eligibility.
- Scholarships may be awarded on a merit or need basis.
Professor Patrick D. Krolak Innovation Scholarship
- The purpose of the fund is to award scholarships to University of Massachusetts Lowell students pursuing a degree in Computer Science.
Professor George Grinstein Scholarship Fund
- This fund was established by Mr. Jian Lou and provides scholarships to undergraduate students pursuing a degree in Computer Science.
- Students must be at the freshman or sophomore level of their degree program and demonstrate financial need through established federal financial aid formulas.
- There will be two annual awards of $10,000 in fiscal years 2016 to 2020.
Student Affairs
The Division of Student Affairs is pleased to announce applications are available for the following scholarships/awards to be presented for the 2016-2107 academic year.
The Education Under a Tree Scholarship recognizes international undergraduate and graduate students for their service to the student community, and acknowledges academic excellence in addition to service.
The Don Gagnon Scholarship recognizes students who have contributed positively to the University Community through their community service and student involvement.
The Jacqueline and Edward Moloney Award recognizes women student leaders for their service to the University Community and acknowledges academic success in addition to service.
The Briguglio and Dunbar Family Endowed Scholarship recognizes those student leaders in the UMass Lowell Community who work each day to make a difference in the life of our students.
The Matt Drouin Scholarship recognizes efforts by students who have engaged in activities centering on themes of social justice and civic engagement.
Students interested in applying for the scholarships can go to www.uml.edu/SAScholarships for the application form and further details concerning criteria and required materials.
- Students may apply for more than one award and may submit the same letters of recommendation for the different awards, as required.
- All applications are due by April 13, 2016.
- It is expected that the selected students will attend the Student Leadership Banquet on Thursday, April 2, from 6-9 PM to receive their awards.

Regarding Final Presentations and Submissions
- Assignment No. 4 is now posted
- note that with 11 teams we will begin final project presentations next Thursday, April 21st
- I am asking for volunteers to present on April 21st
- you will still have time to refine your project after your presentation
- final submission will be due Saturday, April 30th (two weeks and 4 days from today)
- therefore, it may even be an advantage to go earlier, because you’ll have more time to polish after your presentation
