What This Assignment Is About     Top

This assignment is simple.  All you have to do is repost your solution to Assignment No. 3 on GitHub in such a way that we can view it in a browser.  The page must be published using GitHub Pages so that we can get to it via the URL:

http://<your_user_name>.github.io/<your_repository_name>/<your_file_name>

For example, I created a simply page that you can see at:

http://jheines.github.io/91461-2014-15f/j1.html

That page lists the basic steps you have to go through to complete this assignment.

The information you need to do this assignment is in a video created by Curran Kelleher, last year’s Teaching Assistant for this course.  You should watch that video and follow along the steps that it outlines.  You will submit your github.io URL using the standard procedure, that is, the Assignment Submission Form.  The only difference is that you will be submitting a github.io URL instead of a weblab.cs.uml.edu URL.  (If you name your file index.html as in the video, you do not have to supply that file name, as it is the default.)

What You Are To Do     Top

  1. Watch Curran’s Introduction to GitHub YouTube Video at:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q6HbQRWAMM4

As a reference for this video, all the commands you will need to execute for this assignment are listed in the Introduction to GitHub README file at:

  2. https://github.com/curran/screencasts/tree/gh-pages/introToGitHub

Below are links to specific times in the video that explain each step.

  3. Follow the instructions in the video to post all the files you created for Assignment No. 3 to GitHub Pages.

  4. Test your page to ensure that is displays properly using your http://your_user_name.github.io URL.

  5. Submit your github.io URL using the Assignment Submission Form.

Submitting Your Assignment for Grading     Top

As always, submit your assignment using the Assignment Submission Form.  This form will lead you through providing all the information we need to evaluate your work, confirming that it is correct, and then e-mailing that information to me with a copy to yourself.  Be sure to select 91.461 Assignment No. 4: Posting a Page to GitHub from the assignment drop-down list on that form.

Important Note:  Don’t forget to click the “Submit Assignment” button on the Assignment Confirmation Form page!  You should then receive an e-mail from the system within a few minutes confirming that your assignment has been submitted.  If you do not receive an e-mail after clicking the “Submit Assignment” button, neither will we.  In that case, something has gone wrong somewhere.  Please try submitting again or contact me.

How You Will Be Graded     Top

This assignment will be graded on a simple 5-point system.  If you page displays from the github.io server properly and without error you will get all 5 points.  If not, your grade will be prorated.

This assignment will be weighted 0.25, or 25%, of our previous assignments.  That is, all the previous assignments had a weight of 1.00, while this one will have a weight of 0.25.  Your final average in this course is a weighted average of all the assignments, quizzes, and attendance.
